The Joy of Changing Banks
Posted by SimianLogic in Uncategorized on 05/31/2007
Back in Atlanta, I used Wachovia. I don’t have a particularly strong opinion of their service–I’m a pretty invisible customer. Most of my money goes in via direct deposit. I use ATMs every now and then, but mostly just get cash back on groceries/whatever. In other words, I don’t ask a whole lot from a bank–other than being available if need-be. Unfortunately for me, there are no Wachovias in the Bay Area. Read the rest of this entry »
Nifty Screencast App
Posted by SimianLogic in Uncategorized on 05/30/2007
We’re thinking about doing some video tutorials for work, and one of the bosses sent me a link to something that we might use: Screencast-O-Matic. The name’s pretty goofy, but it seems like it could also have some nifty applications for machinima–eventually. Looking at the demo WoW videos, the framerate seems pretty low. I’m at work now, so I’ll do a little test later with Torque and see how it goes.
UPDATE: Yikes! I only got around one frame a second on my poor little laptop. This is definitely one to file under “maybe some day…”
I got crabs.
Posted by SimianLogic in Uncategorized on 05/28/2007
So, after pointing me to this link a couple of days ago, Diana and I (along with our friend Autumn and one of her co-workers) decided to give crabbing a shot. We borrowed some crab nets from her uncle and had some fun in a fisherman’s warehouse (bait-cages, new ropes, fancy harnesses that we ended up not bothering with…). Read the rest of this entry »
First Week Roundup
Posted by SimianLogic in Uncategorized on 05/26/2007
The problem with waking up at 7:40 every day (the girlfriend’s alarm time… I would set it for 8:45) is that you tend to wake up at that same time on the weekends. Up, now, and no point going back to sleep, I thought I might as well reflect on my first week in the working world.
I resolved exactly one bug. Read the rest of this entry »
Eclipse vs NetBeans for Flex2 Development
Posted by SimianLogic in Uncategorized on 05/25/2007
Today’s been interesting from an IDE point of view. After doing a little research, I saw lots of references to how to set up Eclipse to compile a Flex project–but only one for NetBeans. Not having either one installed on my work machine, I went with Eclipse. I like it okay, but I’m not a big fan of the Ant integration (NetBeans seems much more natural in this regard). I had an idea I wanted to test when I got home (more on this in a day or two probably), so I set out to reproduce my work setup. Only I didn’t have Eclipse on my home PC (versus my work Mac) and I did already have NetBeans installed. Read the rest of this entry »
Team Trivia: Stanford Style
Posted by SimianLogic in Uncategorized on 05/22/2007
Team Trivia (under a couple of different “brand names” and rulesets) was one of my favorite Atlanta past-times. Regardless of the specific type, all of the ones I played in Atlanta had a few similarities: Read the rest of this entry »
First Day
Posted by SimianLogic in Uncategorized on 05/21/2007
Not that I’ve had a lot (or even three) of them, but first days seem to be completely useless in determining what your eventual “work-life” will be. Today, for example, I got in at 9:00…shook hands with the new boss (who only hung around for a few hours before taking off to play with other projects) and said hello to my new “desk,” a folding table with a nice big 20″ iMac on it. Hello World
Posted by SimianLogic in blog on 05/17/2007
The last few weeks have been quite a whirlwind. I finished grad school (MS in Digital Media from Georgia Tech), packed everything I could fit into my car, and drove cross-country–the only minor hiccup being a speeding ticket for going 10 (10!) over in Oklahoma. The last week or so in Atlanta and the first week or so here were marked by a flurry of phone and in-person interviews. In the end, I got three offers (not counting the three that I broke off before it got to the offer stage). It’s nice to be wanted, but man can it be taxing talking to so many people at once.
