I stumbled across this site earlier and thought it was a bit more similar to what I want to build. The transaction page (just going off the demo video) is a simpler, though–transactions can only have one category. I definitely want to support multiple tags per entry.
I’ve also been thinking about other ways to do the tagging. Read the rest of this entry »
Bonds vs Ruth Chart
Posted by SimianLogic in Uncategorized on 06/20/2007
I saw this over on Yahoo! Sports today: a chart comparing Bonds’ home run totals by year with Hank Aaron’s. I know it’s Flash 9, and I’m assuming they did it with Flex Charting. This is the kind of fun little chart that really shows the potential, I think.

Way back in high school, I ordered a DVD called Perfect Blue from a flier somewhere (I think I was a member of the “SciFi Bookclub” or something at the time). I’d never heard of it before, but it reviewed as a Hitchcock-esque anime with overtones of Philip K. Dick. I didn’t much care for Hitchcock back then and I was just getting into Philip K. Dick, so really what I was hoping for was anime boobies. Oh high school. Read the rest of this entry »
Billster… well, sort of.

At work, I’ve been spending a ridiculous amount of time with Flex’s charting components. Eventually I want to move in to doing more of the Ruby on Rails stuff, too, though–so I’ve been trying to think of projects I could do on the side as a kind of warm-up diversion. Being new at the whole making money thing, I thought it would be cool to make a little finance-tracking tool with a few basic features… Read the rest of this entry »
Random Thoughts and the California CRV
Posted by SimianLogic in blog on 06/15/2007
A random smattering of thoughts and occurances from the last few days:
- After experiencing it first-hand, I was told that the traffic on El Camino doubles every time the temperature rises 10 degrees.
- Moving into a new apartment is expensive (this week’s buy: cookware).
- When you buy new lamps, they should come with comlementary light bulbs so you don’t have to go back to the store.
- This device combined with this device combined with bagels make for a kick-ass breakfast that takes around 5 minutes to make.
- Genopal is a pretty nifty tool–even niftier for the fact that it’s got a free version online.
In other news, today I discovered the California CRV. Read the rest of this entry »
Sunburn and Cafe Baklava

I went camping over the weekend–a yearly canoe trip that my roommate last summer invited me on. We drove up to Alexander Valley on Friday night, canoed down the Russian River on Saturday, and hung out at a winery (and played Bocci Ball) on Sunday. Despite the title, I actually did a pretty good job of sunscreen application–meaning I’m not suffering too bad.
Last night, Diana took the train home. I met her in Mountain View and we wandered around looking for a place to eat. Read the rest of this entry »
Nami Nami

Diana and I had dinner with a friend of hers from UPenn yesterday. Her friend chose a place in downtown Mountain View called Nami Nami. All I knew going into it was that it was a Japanese restaurant. It was decently fancy ($190 with tip for the three of us), but quite unlike anything I’ve ever had before– “kappo style” is what this article called it. The article also mentions that the dishes are seasonal, but there were so many things on the menu that it seems like it would take at least three visits to try everything from one “season.” Rather than real “entrees” there were lots of smaller tapas-style dishes. I don’t remember all of the ones we got, but I’ll try to at least describe a few. Read the rest of this entry »
Baseball and Internet Radio

So, being a big Braves fan, paying $12 or whatever it was to listen to the games online was a no-brainer. Most of the games start at 7:05 or 7:35 EST, so listening to the game at work is a good wind-down for the day’s work. Today’s complaints are on the interface employed by www.atlantabraves.com to get to those audio streams. Read the rest of this entry »
New Apartment…and stuff
Posted by SimianLogic in blog on 06/03/2007
I moved into my apartment Friday afternoon…and this has been a truly exhausting weekend. I can’t wait for the work week to start up so I can finally get some rest. I got my key at around 3:00 and immediately headed back out to get a few things I knew I’d need. I was back by 6:00 so that my dinette set ($450, 6 months @ 0%) could be delivered.
