filler: a game

Not much activity lately, but all for a good cause. After negotiating with various sponsors (the game’s been more or less done since mid-December), I released my first sponsored game today: filler. I had several offers on the table upwards of a couple of thousand dollars, but in the end I decided to go with a non-exclusive sponsorship from Kongregate. The game will be living on their site exclusively for a week or so before I start an upload-fest and try to get it as widely distributed as possible (which will bring in even more money via MochiAds). Because Kongregate offers non-exclusive sponsorships (meaning I can resell ad-free, site-locked versions to individual portals), I’m eventually expecting to make several thousand dollars off of this game. I may do a longer post-mortem later, but for now it just feels so good to have it out there.

Note: I shrunk it down so it would fit in this blog pane (I’ve made a mental note to fix that later).  The actual game dimensions are 600×500,  so don’t tax your eyes too badly playing it here!  You can see a bigger version at one of my ugly temporary pages here.

How much for a site-locked version with No mochi-ads? :D

Let us know when you have your next flash game up for grabs and we’ll make a bid for sponsorship. We do non-exclusive deals as well.

    Simian,

My wife and I love the game. She is much better than I am so I have to wait along time in between games. Oh well, its fun to watch her play as well!

I have a suggestion. You should change “XX% Cleared” to “XX% Filled” since the name of the game is Filler.

    Thanks for the fun!

    Hi Simian
I love your game. it’s pretty cool. I wonder if you have an iPhone version in mind.
    Cheers.

I’ve never built anything for the iPhone, but I certainly wouldn’t be upset if someone wanted to port it over.

Will, please email me if you would like to discuss additional distribution for your game on our fast growing Meez Games Channel. Thx, Sean

    Love the game!

I’ve found a bug however. I can “Trap” the bouncy balls which is great, but sometimes when they are trapped you automatically loose lives when you add a new filler balls even if they’re being added on the opposite side of the screen from the “Trapped” bouncy balls.

    Again though, love the game.

    Irving:

This is actually done on purpose–but it can be avoided. Whenever a bouncing ball is “squashed” or pushed into too small of a space, it will reappear at the top right corner.

    Hi Will,

I would be interested in featuring a non-exclusive of Filler on our site. Let me know if your interested?

    Cheers,

    Allyunks

    Great game, I’m hooked.
Please can you tell me where you got the music from or if you composed it yourself could I have an MP3 version?

    Thanks

Do you have a Flash 7 or 8 version of the game that we can evaluate for the chumby?

The music was purchased from a site called SoundRangers. I also use them for sound effects.

When I submit my high score (after level 58) it seems to be a garbled screen and confusing. Love the game – very addicting!!! Thanks.

Umm after 2 and some hours, 56 levels and 161,589 score, I just need to know one thing…
    IS THERE AN END?

Oh yeah, my girlfriend thinks this game is like Heroin Hero (SouthPark Reference)

Is there an actual high score list or what?

  15. #15 by SimianLogic on 02/05/2008 - 1:05 am

Haha… I don’t think so. Most sites have their own high scores… and there was a bug in early versions that allowed for crazy high scores. My room-mate made it to level 68, but I never made it past level 20 while I was testing it.

Are the INSANELY high scores for real? 2,000,000+ I think something hinky is going on!!

  17. #17 by SimianLogic on 02/06/2008 - 11:16 am

Some of the earliest versions have a bug that allows you to drag a ball outside the level. It’s been fixed in newer releases, but there’s no way to pull those old SWFs back in.

Hi, On that music, I would really like to use it for a dance piece I am doing. Can you give me the name of it?

Love the game until I finally reached level 41 and it completely crapped out on me… FROZEN! Ahhhhh…… I have been working on this for weeks!

  21. #21 by Trent on 03/25/2008 - 10:23 pm

Hey, i just got to level 43 with 105748 points, i was wondering what is the highest anybody has gotten

  22. #22 by SimianLogic on 03/27/2008 - 1:47 pm

The highest I’ve seen with my own eyes is my roommate–level 63 (I forgot the score). The historical scores on Kongregate are a little wonky due to a bug in early releases, but if you look at the last week’s high scores it should give you a fairly good indicator of how high people are getting.

This is an awesomes game. Highly mesmorizing, pleasant, and addicting: however, where’s the COLOR?

A little color would just add SOOO much to this game.

Good Luck – keep up the good work.

  24. #24 by Steve on 04/12/2008 - 4:34 pm

Hey I’m on level 66 and a score of 197,950.
can’t you delete the old high scores? or tell Kongregate to delete them? also a posibility to see the high score without having to play and die would be nice.
I love the game good work, keep it up
